How far can porcelain be pushed… before it stops seeming possible?
This intensive 3-day workshop is an immersion into one of the most delicate and surprising techniques in contemporary ceramics: the creation of ultra-thin porcelain forms that appear almost weightless and translucent.
Working with flax-paper porcelain — porcelain reinforced with fibres — participants will build pieces over inflated balloons, exploring a completely different way of understanding volume, weight and fragility.
Throughout the workshop, you will not only learn how to create these pieces, but also how to design the support systems required for suspended firing in the kiln — one of the most fascinating and technically demanding aspects of this process.
The workshop is led by Belgian ceramic artist Guy Van Leemput, internationally recognised for his research into ultra-thin porcelain and contemporary translucency techniques.

Each participant will create 3 complete pieces, exploring both fundamental and advanced approaches to construction, texture and pattern.

No previous experience with this specific technique is required, although basic ceramic knowledge is recommended.
What you will learn during this workshop
Throughout the workshop, participants will learn how to:
- work with flax-paper porcelain
- build forms over inflated structures
- create extremely thin bowls and vessels
- apply contemporary pattern and texture techniques
- use specialized tools, including a mini extruder
- design patterns on curved surfaces
- understand principles of rhythm, distribution and proportion
- create support systems for suspended firing
- prepare delicate porcelain pieces for firing
Each participant will complete 3 finished pieces during the workshop.
This workshop will be taught in Spanish and English.
