Workshop: wheel throwing – techniques and postures

This is what you’ll learn in this course

When you work with ceramics, it is important to know the material, what happens during the firings, how the glazes respond…

But in this throwing workshop, we want to present the work on the wheel from another point of view: from the connection of the activity with the body, a very important part that’s usually neglected, often creating bad postures while working.

Raúl Mouro, ceramic artist with extensive experience (his family has a tradition of working on the wheel since the 16th century!!) teaches us how to throw (all the necessary technical part) while being aware of our postures and breathing. Program

• The kneading
  • The importance of preparing the raw material to facilitate centering of the piece.
• Centering the clay through posture
  • We’ll learn how to use all the resources of our body and apply the appropriate pressure at all times.
• The importance of a good base to later shape the piece.
  • Technique and hand placement.
• Throwing: walls
  • Technique, hand placement and breathing.
• Shapes
  • The importance of perspective, technique and the hand-brain connection to make shapes.
• Guidelines to work on our well-being on the wheel
  • Rests, stretches.

Dates:

Beginner’s level (no previous experience necessary): Saturday, June 1st from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Price: €100

Intermediate’s level (you can throw and center at least 1 kg of clay): Sunday, June 2nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Price: €115

THIS COURSE INCLUDES:

• stoneware, tools, firings and glazes
• Of the pieces you make, you’ll choose your favorite – we’ll glaze it and let you know when to pick it up.

For better attention and quality of classes, we work with groups of a maximum of 9 students. Courses are confirmed from 6 registered students. In the case of cancellation of the course, 100% of the value paid for the course will be refunded.
