This is what you’ll learn in this course

This 3 days workshop is aimed to people who have already experience in porcelain, interested to discover new materials and techniques in order to experiment new possibilities to work with porcelain for jewelry.

This workshop is held by the ceramicist and jeweler artist Luca Tripaldi, born in Turin and based in Florence Italy.
Having an extended career in Jewelry making, Luca conducts workshops throughout Europe and United States,
as well as in his own studio in Florence. We’re delighted to have Luca again in Eltorn.
Please, do not miss his IG @lucatripaldiporcelainandmore

Program:

You will learn how to easily make a silicone mold from any shape and material in order to get reply in porcelain. This method is much faster of the slip casting in a plaster molds because you don’t have to care of the undercuts and you don’t have to wait for porcelain drying to take out the pieces.

You’ll assemble the porcelain elements got with this technique into a necklace, using a very particular way to connect each piece and to create the clasp; using a special thread and some tiny glass beads.

We’ll teach you how to work with Keraflex: it’s a porcelain paper clay sold in sheets, it has the consistency, thickness and flexibility of a cardboard. The Keraflex can be cut and folded at your desire. The shapes, the lightness and the very thin thicknesses you can reach with it are not possible with the regular porcelains.

We’ll also show you how to use the “hot pot” to make a bisque and a gold luster firings. The Hot Pot is a box made of refractory material which can be used in a regular microwave. That’s an incredible option when a ceramic kiln is not available or if you need a quick firing and don’t have enough pieces to load a full kiln.

This course will be divided into 3 stages.

Friday:

1- Working on silicone molds to create porcelain elements for your necklace, rings and brooches, using regular soft porcelain (Limoges porcelain).

2- Bisque firing of pieces during the evening

Saturday:

1- Making the elements with the paper clay porcelain Keraflex.

2- Sanding and glazing the bisque fired pieces.

3- Firing at high temperature of all the pieces made (bisque and green ware) during the evening

1- Using of the gold luster.

2- Demonstration how to do a bisque firing and a gold luster firing with the Hot Pot in the microwave.
