This is what you’ll learn in this course

The proposal of the ceramic artist Alberto Bustos in this workshop is to teach us how to hand build and texture the clay directly with our hands, adding unusual materials to the process (such as cookies, for example!).

With the technique of hand tossing, we’ll make slabs and filaments of different shapes. We’ll create stony textures with cookie pieces, using pigments and glazes.

We’ll learn to apply to all these pigments in powder or liquid forms, using brushes, toothbrush, sieve, etc.

All these processes are not only applicable to sculptural pieces: they can inspire you to build and decorate functional ware.

Program

day 1

  • Video presentation.
  • Preparation of the slabs without mechanical means (by hand tossing technique).
  • Application of colored pigments mixed with opaque transparent glazed powder
  • Realization of different pieces applying the previous processes;
  • Explanation of the hand building of square filaments with the hand tossing technique
  • Application of pigments with transparent glaze, using a toothbrush
