Intro to ceramics: throwing, hand building and glazing

This is what you’ll learn in this course

The goal of this pottery workshop is to give you a complete introduction to the main techniques of working with clay: hand building and the wheel throwing.

This workshop is divided into 2 weekends and 1 additional Saturday: one weekend for HAND BUILDING, the other for WHEEL THROWING and  a Saturday to learn how to glaze your pieces.

In the HAND BUILDING weekend you will learn the 2 manual techniques of construction of pieces: slabs and coiling. With these techniques we will make a breakfast set with a mug, bowl, plate and a vase for flowers (it is a romantic breakfast …). The complete set will be fired by our team.

In the WHEEL THROWING weekend you will learn the first steps of working on the electric wheel: how the center the clay and how throw the main shapes (cylinders and bowls). A selection of your best pieces (6 units), chosen by you, will be fired by our team.

And on the assigned Friday, you’ll learn how to glaze your breakfast set and your selection of thrown pieces if you’d like so – just sign up for the glazing class.

You can pick up your finished pieces within 2 weeks after the glazing class. All pieces are suitable for everyday use (and they’re very brave – they are not afraid of the microwave nor the dishwasher!).

No previous experience needed! You just need to bring old clothes and shoes to change – all the rest is up to us.

Schedule:  May 18-19 from 10am to 3pm for handbuilding  and May 25-26  from 10am to 4pm for wheel throwing; and glazing class  Friday date to be confirmed from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
