Plaster Mold for Slip Casting
How many times have you thought, “I love this piece — I wish I could make it again”?
Or maybe you’ve hesitated because mold making seems too technical, complicated, or just boring.
The truth is different:
The mold is freedom.
It’s the tool that allows you to multiply your ideas, experiment without fear, and take your work to a new professional level.
Why this workshop makes your ceramic reproduction process easier
🔶 you save time and material — once you have your mold, you can reproduce your piece as many times as you want, exploring new variations, glazes, or combinations.
🔶 it frees you from the fear of mistakes — you no longer depend on each hand-modeled piece turning out perfectly.
🔶 it professionalizes your production — you’ll be able to create consistent series, prototypes, and pieces for commissions or exhibitions with steady quality.
🔶 no previous experience is required — we’ll work from scratch, guided by Helena Civit, ceramic artist experienced in using plaster as a creative, not just technical, tool.
Who it’s for
✅ Ceramicists who want to add a new technique to their practice, for example by incorporating mold-made elements into their pieces.
✅ People who want to optimize their production process by repeating forms or components without having to model them from scratch each time.
✅ Those who want to experiment with reproducing pieces, varying glazes, finishes, or combinations from the same mold.
✅ Ceramicists looking to move toward a more organized or professional production while maintaining their personal artistic language.
No previous experience needed.
What you’ll learn
✅ designing and creating your own plaster mold, step by step, starting from the original model.
✅ prepare casting slip (liquid clay) with the ideal consistency for flawless results.
✅ casting in your own mold, demold, and understand how to adapt the process to your creative goals.
And to achieve that, we’ll go through these key points in detail:
✅ Analyzing the chosen piece to determine where to place the cuts and “keys” of the mold.
✅ Calculating the amount of plaster needed for your mold.
✅ Building the containment box for pouring the plaster.
✅ Preparing the casting slip correctly.
✅ Pour and cast in your own mold.
You’ll choose a piece proposed by Helena to make your mold,
or, if you prefer, you can bring your own piece — we’ll just need you to send a photo beforehand to confirm whether it can be done as a one-part or two-part mold.
